Paper Weight for Epson 7900
« on: October 19, 2013, 12:12:57 am »

After printing with my 7900 for about 3 years, I just happened tonight to notice in the specifications that the allowable range of roll paper weight is 64-90 g/sm.  Now, I have printed with 260 g/sm roll paper, and a friend says he has used over 300 g/sm roll paper.

Does anyone know why the specified range of roll paper weight is so low?  I don't even know of any papers that light, except plain paper.

Stan,

I have never seen a max grams per square meter for the 7900 only mm for thickness.
I found on the online Epson 7900 spec sheet where it says .5mm roll thickness and 1.5mm for sheet thickness.
In the manual for the 7900 it has 0.8mm for roll and posterboard/sheet thickness of 1.5mm.
Not sure why one says .5mm and the other .8mm?

It is obviously an error. After stating that the next line has ‘0.08 to 0.5 mm’ for roll paper, and there are plenty of 0.5 mm papers over 300 g/m².

I have used 350 /g/m² rolls and 505 g/m² sheets (Epson Somerset Velvet).

Dan and Brian -

I can certainly accept that it is errors, I was just wondering if any issues relative to paper weight and an Epson-acceptable range specification have arisen.

It appears that the manual has undergone some revisions since I got mine (dated 10/2008 on the Legal Notices page).  Mine has the 0.08 mm min thickness rather than the 0.8 mm, and has a paper weight range spec for both roll and sheet, but no thickness spec for sheet.
