Pier in B&W and colour
« on: October 18, 2013, 04:06:48 am »

Good morning,
I took this one last weekend, before dawn, in the beach near my house (Carcavelos, outskirts of Lisbon). I used a 9 stop ND filter, for a total of 5 minutes exposure, with Fuji XE-1 and 14mm lens. I have also flipped the image, and post the colour original for comparison.

I prefer the monochrome but would make the sky a bit darker. Thanks!

Paulo I really like the tones of the monochrome version but, for me, it has a nice leading line (the pier) but it leads nowhere.

My vote also goes to the B&W version. I prefer the flipped image and the B&W process. The color image is far from bad…

Odd man out on this one.  I prefer the color version.  I think that is because the pier is the subject and the color carries more interest (for me).
Nice study.

I agree.  Because the pier points to nothing/nowhere, the colour version adds other elements of interest to the image.

Interesting replies. This shot to me was all about leading the eye towards a bright horizon/future. Hence the title I chose. So to me, it does not lead to nowhere, it leads to somewhere. That is why I chose to convert to B&W, and have the pier leading to a lighter area of the sky, representing a brighter future.

See!  A picture may be worth a thousand words, but sometimes you need 1200...  :)
