Eizo CG 246 or NEC SpectraView Reference 242
« on: October 15, 2013, 04:43:49 am »

Hi there,

I want to replace my existing Eizo CG 21" Monitor with a larger, 24" Display and I've narrowed it down to two devices:

http://www.eizo.com/global/products/coloredge/cg246/#tab02
vs
http://www.nec-display-solutions.com/p/de/de/products/details/dp/Products/LCD/Current/SV-Reference242/SV-Reference242.xhtml?cat=Colour&realm=products/choice&mg=LCD_ColourMgmt_Desktop

The eizo includes self-calibration which would be convenient I guess, the NEC is a bit newer and has a better panel I think (AH-IPS).
Did anyone have a look at those two monitors, or some kind of experience and could help me a bit or suggest one?
I'm not sure about the details..

Thanks a lot!
Christoph

Hi Chris,

äs fair as I know the NEC reference is only available in Europe. The USA model is the PA241, which in compare to the European model, comes with hardware calibration and NEC spectra view II software.
This software can be used with the PA241 model which is also available in Germany for a much better price than the reference model, but unfortunately the software is not officially available in Europe.

The reference model comes, as far as I know, with a personalized version of basiccolor.

To save much money, you could buy the PA241 in Germany and try to order NEC Spectraview II T B&H.

Just my 5 cent...

Best wishes Robert

I hope you are aware that the CG246 has a fan.
The noise it produces is for many users a no go.

I think the rest is as usual.

NEC has only a 14bit LUT and the Eizo has a 16bit LUT.

I don't mind the fan, I know that some people complained about it.

Right now I'm tending towards the Eizo ..
