Communication Error Epson 3880
« on: October 13, 2013, 09:08:28 am »

I keep getting a communication error notification each time I print, yet there appears to be no visible degradation to the printed image. I've checked driver updates for the Epson 3880 and Lightroom 5.2, so I do have the latest.  This has just starting happening recently. I want to say after Lightroom 5.2 upgrade. Any ideas or solutions?

Epson Stylus Pro 3880 (driver 8.64)
Lightroom 5.2 version 10.8[5]
Mac OSx 10.8x

Thanks for any assistance.

A couple of thoughts..........

While I suppose it's *possible* that LR5.2 is to blame, it's really unlikely and much more likely that it's the 10.8.5
update which was in the same time frame.

It'd be good to know if you are connecting via USB or Ethernet.

Have you tried resetting the printing system?

Have you tried using a different application to print to the 3880?

Have you checked the Console to see if there is any additional info?

The always popular and often useless 'Repair Permissions' ???

I've had a few (two) stubborn "communication errors" over the years with my 3800 and each time it ended up being the USB cord--a new cord and all was well.

I would just try disconnecting and then reconnecting the cord -- especially if the error is intermittent.

(Usually if there is a driver install problem, you'll see significant issues in actual printing -- e.g., colors will be way off, or the location/size of the image on the page will be way off, etc.  Sounds like your driver is actually installed properly.)

I put this on my "Trouble-shoot" list ... two months ago.  Have had no problems (or degradation) printing.  One day I might get around to testing ... .

Fwiw, OS 10.8.5.  Prints well.  Reports ink levels, etc.
