Epson 9890 Print Centering issue (help!)
« on: October 10, 2013, 07:34:17 pm »

Hello all -

I've already read the archived thread about this issue from 2011. Though helpful, I was wondering if anyone here is able give me some guidance with my new Epson 9890.

I've successfully printed 50 or so prints with no issues on a 24"X50' MuseoMax Roll Paper. These prints were made directly from CS5, image size 23"X23", w/ a custom paper size of 24"X24". Prints were centered and trimmed perfectly.

Today I switched out to my larger 36"X50' MuseoMax Roll. Image size 34"X19", w/ a custom paper size of 36"X19". All the other settings seem to be the same as my previous successful print run.

Now, my image is kicking over to the left an 1/8th of an inch for seemingly no reason? For the life of me I can't figure out why. Is there something in the Print Setup that I am missing or may have accidentally clicked? All I want to do is have a clean 1/2" border around my image.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

You are trying to print a 19" image on 19" paper?

Is the 1/8th error even over the length? or just at one end as this could be skew, which is by far IMO of the greatest weaknesses of the Epson roll feed printers.  One roll can work great on one use, but the next time have a skewed result.

Skew will only effect the dimension in the Running length. Example on a 44" roll if I print a 24 x 36 with the 24" the height of the print on the roll, and 36" is the width.  My 36" dimension will be exact every single time, whereas my 24 will sometimes be exact, and other times off by as much as 1/8" of an inch most times only on one side.  1/8 is within the spec for Epson Skew errors.

If you print is off uniformly, then it's more than likely a driver issue.

Apologies, typo on my end, custom paper size is 34"X17", not 34"X19".

For those curious, solved my issue w/ Downloading Mirage.
It gave me much more control of the placement of my final image.
Recommended for a low cost solution for people who don't want to invest in a higher priced RIP software.
Thanks.
