Okay, so shooting handheld, at twilight, with a cell phone probably isn't the best idea, but I was there and thought this might be an idea worth pursuing again. When the fall/winter storms come the ocean tends to rip the bull kelp away from their holdfasts and pound them against the shore or whatever happens to be convenient. You can also get mats of kelp tangles; more than once I've seen herons and other birds riding them...
