Shipping equipment ahead internationally
« on: October 05, 2013, 11:06:31 pm »

I notice that some folks ship extra gear ahead (via FedEX etc.) when working overseas rather than carry it in person.

Just wondering how you deal with Customs etc.? Does your business insurance cover the gear for loss/damage, so you can just give it a nominal value for shipping and save it getting bogged down in Cutoms and incurring lots of import duty etc.? I've looked through my policy and can't see anything specifically about shipping gear ...

Thanks.

Jim.

Where are you going...?

I take my kit carry on, rent grip out there, if it's really isolated pack a ten a air case with lights.
American Airlines are usually ok with multiple bags of kit, normally a fixed price per bag.  That way your kit stays with you.

The thought of sending kit on/customs seems like expensive trouble.
