Not sure about the cause, but the scree slopes in #1 look odd to me, with coarse, plastic-looking surfaces, kind of like it has been up-rezzed too much.

On the other hand, I really like #2 in the link you post. Very nice!!

Nice shots, almost reminiscent of "Close encounters"...

#2 in the link is indeed amazing.

I'm not so hot on the first photo. It looks like plastic, don't understand why.

The second image from your blog is a beauty, absolutely exquisite.

Scott, Paulo and Francois - merci beaucoup.

I meant the first image to be a 'paintograph.'  The facets of the cliff from this angle strike me as being amenable to this kind of treatment.  The effect I desired perhaps does not come through at this small size.

On my screen it looks slightly blurred, which is completely counter to your usual crisp
The other images are just excellent, as usual.

Thanks for the info. My first thought to describe this photo was "painterly".

Eric,

Looks like my attempt at the 'paintograph' flopped.  I shall give it a re-look.

#2, definitely! I can just imagine some Old Norse outlaw landing there circa 950 AD with his buddies and a few hapless Irish slave-girls/ soon-to-be concubines or wives.

I like the lines/framing in the first one; it does look like the NR was set WAY too high, but I assumed that was to a purpose.  The colour one doesn't work as well for me.
