Water damage
« on: September 18, 2013, 09:39:54 pm »

How dye printers and papers have changed. Today I was leaving my garage with a 13x19 print made on Canon Lustre with a Canon PRO 100 (dye ink) printer. A giant drop of water plopped right in the middle of the print. I quickly dabbed the water up with paper towel. I expected to find ink smudges on the towel (none) and damage (or at least a stain) to the paper surface. After the print dried there was no sign of where the water had been! It was almost like an old darkroom print that has no fear of moisture. Amazing!

If the Canon Lustre is a microporous paper it can take a while for water to penetrate.  If you use the swellable papers that give dye a reasonable non-fade life, they are spoiled by water straight away.
