The Rocks: Sunset - B&W - Night
« on: September 11, 2013, 05:35:00 pm »

A couple of days ago, I drove to Kerpe about 2 hours from where I live to shoot the rocks in Kerpe. I started with a sunset and finished with light painting. Here are three shots.

My vote goes to #1. Highlights vs. shadows well balanced. You might want to remove that white halo between the rocks and sky.

I like all of them, but my vote goes for #2. I think the B&W really brings more richness to the rock textures (hey, I am a geologist...).

As for #3, I am not sure about the light painting, seems a bit too harsh. But the colour in the sky came out nice.

Great pictures but the amount of sensor noise in the first pic really surprises me. I know my D700 has a lot of sensor noise at longer shutter speeds and I have to use in camera noise reduction to get rid of it. I find all the red and green dots distracting in the full size image, no problem on the smaller image. SUch a pretty place..

#3 bothers me a bit, but #1 and #2 are both quite fine. I think I prefer the B&W, slightly.

I like 1 and 2 - 3 is overly saturated for my eyes.
