i1iO new generation vs old
« on: September 11, 2013, 01:29:40 pm »

I don`t like X-Rite trade policy. I have i1iO first generation (Gretag Macbeth) and i1 Pro (aka EFI ES-1000). The offer price for the upgrade iO first generation of i1Pro 2 (450 EUR + shipping price from Switzerland 150 EUR) is absurdly high. Their another requirement is to send the i1io to Switzerland. It is only a trivial exchange old for new footplate that can handle the baby. I let produce a few pieces of component by a specialized company. If someone wants to contact me at the above email. Photos here http://uloz.to/xFdwrMKw/footplate-io-jpg, video herehttp://uloz.to/xEz96GYt/i1io-1st-generation-replace-non-original-footplate-mov.

The same is true for the exchange of driving belts.
Only replacement strap from the engine is a little more complicated and I recommend it to carry out only those more experienced.

Well...

I had the same issue but I didnt wanna cut up my old footplate, so I made one with my 3D printer instead.
It needed an extra piece of thick PTFE sticker below the target locater hole but it worked flawlessly with my new i1pro2.

Wow, I'm impressed. Good job! Let us know if it all works out. Maybe you should go into business building them.

Thanks DD! ;D

I wrote a small blog post on the modifications (hack) and placed the 3D file there for all to download and use.

Hope it helps the folks here who're stuck with the old i1io.

This is a great idea. Thank you for great accomplishment and sharing the 3d file for everyone. Listen, I do have rev1 iO but do not own 3d printer. How much would it cost me that you can make one foot plate for me?

Does the new footplate also fit old i1 pro or just i1pro2? I am asking because I still rhave 3 i1pros.

Hey Derek,

I think you can send the STL file to shapeways and have them print it for you.

The i1pro v1 will not fit on this footplate due to its wider rear 'leg'. I could make some design adjustments to the model to allow v1 to fit but it'll have to wait for a few weeks due to overwhelming workload I have now.

It saddens me to discover that there is a certain extremely dishonest individual who just seek to exploit my work to pass off as his own.

Thief: Pascal D https://www.facebook.com/couleureticc?hc_location=stream
URL: http://couleureticc.com/wp/2013/11/22/modifier-une-table-io-version-1-pour-recevoir-un-i1-pro-2/
fb: https://www.facebook.com/couleuricc

proof that he stole my article and 3D model file without permission/credit/mention to use for his own profit:

From the facebook page, he appears to be connected to xrite in france.
Can anyone give me some advice as to how to handle this?

Phew. He finally removed them after a couple of messages insisting he's in the right, about me (hilariously) "crying wolf", and that plebeian folks like me are dirt compared to 'color specialists' like him.

Thanks to all who helped to advise me and give support.

It's all good now. *goes back to work* 8)

It happens all the time. Guys that are a xxx* if you made the hours developing it and have been generous to write about it and give access to the plans. Good that you confronted him..

I was thinking buying an old used i1IO and using your great work!

Is there any chance getting an i1IO work together with an colormunki?

Nothing is impossible but I suspect this would be rather difficult to do.

Is the design file for this modification still available? If so, how can it be obtained?

Hi guys, sorry for the absence of late. I've been horribly busy (average 4hr sleeps daily for the past few months).
At Andrew's request, I've gotten my act together and put the file up on shapeways so whoever wanting to try their hands on retrofitting the i1io v1 can help themselves to the 3d printed part.

Cheers~

Cool, thank! That works, just ordered one. Be great to haul down the old i0 table and use it again.

Works perfectly! Got the unit yesterday, refitted it and was able to measure and build a test profile. This is what X-rite should have produced and offered in the first place. Super happy, thanks!

Awesome!  ;D
Glad it worked for you.
You should put a few teflon mouse feet below the plate to help it glide better.
