How does Adobe Photoshop CC handle plug-ins and user settings?
« on: September 10, 2013, 09:02:09 pm »

A question I have not seen addressed...

In the past, whenever one installed a new version of Photoshop, one needed to reinstall one's plug-ins and most of one's various user settings, actions, preferences, etc.  Will that need to be redone every time that CC updates?  Or will those be retained through the update process?

Thanks,
Lisa

When I installed CC, my workspace preferences were available immediately to select.  Actions I'd programmed are there.  Can't say about plugins, don't use any.  But the HSB/HSL filter, which I do use, is not there.

Only plugin I use is PK Sharpen. When installing cc for the first time I had to reinstall but as you know not a big deal.

With the update on Monday I didn't have to re install PK Sharpen.

Hi Lisa,

Plug-ins, settings, actions, prefs, etc. should be preserved through ongoing CC updates.  We hope this will reduce headaches going forward.

For the first time in a new version like CC, we recommend you re-install from our installer. Plus we updated that installer for CC. After that, if there are CC updates, you're all set and done. I can't speak for all other plug-in's but that should be the general rule.

Thanks for your observations, everyone.  That's very helpful.  It's a relief that all that setup only needs to be done once.  That removes one potential serious disadvantage of CC that I was worried about.

It was one of the big selling points for me. I dislike finding the time to upgrade PS. My studio is busy and it has always been an issue. Then having to figure out all the changes gets kind of put off and then I fall behind. With the roll out of incremental changes and upgrades I was hoping that would be avoided as the changes would come through in a way I could more easily assimilate.

Just one set of upgrades so far and the process has been as I hoped.
