Grand Canyon Sunset
« on: September 07, 2013, 01:12:06 pm »

Hello all!

I just got back from Grand Canyon National Park where I was shooting for about a week. Just now getting images processed and wanted to share a few with you. Images were captured on a Canon EOS 6D and a sensor modified Canon EOS 5D IR.

Any comments, questions or critiques please don't hesitate to leave a response. More feedback the better! : )

"With practice we become proficient in handling the image-management & value-control procedures; the interval between our first perception of the subject & the completion of visualization & the requried technical procedures becomes suprisingly short." Ansel Adams

I like the colour shot though the blue sky in the upper top-right seems to my eye to have a magenta cast to it.

The B&W, because of the time of day (~ mid-day), comes across to me as too bright in the lower third, notably the other side of valley on the right half of the photo.

First one is very good, with high quality of light. In the second one, IR, the contrast is too high for my taste.

I like the first one very much. Really nice.
I feel the composition on the second one is not ideal.  I would try to re-crop but it may not work.  I find the foreground left side is cropped in an unnatural way which creates confilict - but I do like the background.

ETA:  I was trying to determine if its contrast or crop in the second one, and think it is the lines that intersect and create visual disharmony - particularly the left foreground rock formation.  I would have maybe tried to shoot this from a different angle if it were possible.  Its just my opinion, and I hope this is helpful.

Lots to like in #1. On the other hand, the cliffs in the bottom left seem a little bright if the sun is also coming from the left.
