I have a Epson 4880 I am setting up for dye sublimation with Sublijet IQ inks.
The driver and profiles are pc only so I am buying either Vmware or Parallels to run this on my Mac Pro.
I only have 10.6.8 on the Mac so have not upgraded to Lightroom 5.
If I load Vmware and buy Lightroom 5 to run on the Pc side will it work?
The pc driver will run on Windows XP or Vista only and am not sure if they will run Lightroom 5

I would also consider bootcamp for the windows environment.  If the drivers are 32 bit I don't think they will work with LR 5 as its only 64 bit as I recall.  You could install the older 3.x LR as it still loaded the 32 bit version or at least gave you the option.  There was a 64 bit version of XP but not many drivers were ever written for it.

I have used both parallels and VMware.  With both I ran into constant license issues mainly on Microsoft issues. But also photoshop.  Others run them fine.

LR5 is available in both 32 & 64bit versions for Windows.

?? Are you suggesting that Sublijet inks offer their own driver for the printer ? or are you saying there's no 4880 driver for a Mac ?

Yes Sawgrass has their own driver for the printer because of the non oem dye inkset, but only PC
The only Epson driver is the oem for pigment inks.

One of the questions still is without 10.7 on the Mac can I run Lightroom 5 on VMware ?

If you are running Windows on VMware, Parallels or Virtualbox, the only thing that matters is that you are running the required version of Windows in that VM to support the software you want to run (LR 5).  The underlying operating system (Mac OS X in your case) is irrelevant.

You do have to make sure that the version of Parallels/VMware/Virtualbox you have supports you host operating system (10.6).

If you are not overly technical, I'd recommend either Parallels or VMware Fusion, whichever you can get for the best price.

I hope that doesn't confuse things too much....

If the driver works on vista, it may work with windows 7 unless Sublijet says it won't.
The other thing to verify with Sublijet is the driver working through the parallels or vmware abstraction layer. If they are using the epson sdk for their driver development and the epson driver works with either virtual machine, then the sublijet driver should work. Otherwise you may have to use bootcamp for a cleaner windows environment.
