HP 772 Cartridges in z3200?
« on: August 28, 2013, 10:39:33 am »

Noticed the 300ml No. 772 cartridges intended for the z5200 whilst on line and wondered whether they can be "persuaded" into a z3200? Looks like the business end might be the same as the No. 70. Anybody tried it?

William.

I looked them up and it seems they're more expensive than the cartridges that are made for the Z3200 -- sooooo, why would you want to do this?

What am I missing?

From my supplier a No. 772 at £78.18/300ml works out at 26p/ml whilst a No.70 a £48.81/130ml is nearly half as much again at 37.5p/ml. Quite a big difference if they've got the same stuff in them.

Well if that is the case, why not get one, perhaps a red cart, and give it a go?  If the shoes fits, and all that, what....

I had the same idea, but a friend inside HP told me that the inks on the 5200 are no exactly the same inks of the 3200. He said it may or may not work, but the dilution ratios appear to be different and surely it would cause some differences on colour gamut (al least).

Best regards.

Geraldo,

Next to the HP 772 300 ML carts the HP 70 130 ML carts can be used in the Z5200. The same carts are used in the Z2100 and seven of them in the Z3100-Z3200. So there is basically no difference between the inks used in the Z models. AFAIK the Z6100-Z6200 heads are a twin assembly of the slower Z heads so I do not expect ink differences for them either.

The question raised is whether the carts will fit. I doubt that. Physically they may fit with the cart chamber lids open (have no experience) but I doubt the firmware will see the 300 ML content or even accept the carts.

Well I had same idea, if the bottom end of cartridge is not the same it is very easy to replace it with bottom end of some old 70 cart. That way "lock and key" system will function. Bigger problem is chip, you should find chip that can replace one in cartridge which can fool the printer and a way to reset or change chip again when printer detect you have use a way lot more that 130 ml from same cart.
