Georgia Jumping Spiders (Including New Species!)
« on: August 18, 2013, 04:20:15 pm »

Maevia n. sp.

Haven't posted here in awhile, but thought I would create a new account and share what was a pretty fun experience this summer. Click on the image above to read a fun little story about discovering a new species of jumping spider along The Apalachian Trial of the Georgia & Tennessee Mountains ...

Lots of fun macro photographs :)

Enjoy,

Jack

Enjoyed your Macro Story. I'm just starting to photograph jumping spiders. The eyes have me.

+1. Gorgeous spider and composition. How did you ever get that one to sit still for such a great shot? Nicely done!

Wow! Spectacular shots!

Man, that looks like hard, painstaking work, but the results are worth it.

Hey guys, glad you enjoyed the little story :D

Yes, macro shooting is hard work and definitely not glamorous. You get covered in sweat, dirt, and mosquitoes ... while you lug a bunch of gear around ... and then you get to sometimes find ticks in places no one wants to find them ... lol ... but I love it and wouldn't have it any other way :)

Cheers,

Jack

PS: With jumpers, especially if it's hot out & they're active, you pretty much throw away 10-20 photos for one good one, and maybe 50-60 for one great one. The snail shot was easy though :P

Thanks Mike!

The little jumpers on the rock faces were cool to find too :)

Great photos! Jumping spiders have been a favorite of mine for ages. Not that I photograph them, but I love to watch them at work. Keep it up!

Thank you Peter. Even people who hate spiders seem to have a soft spot for jumpers ... I think it's because they look like Muppets up close, LOL
