Information about Odemira region - Portugal
« on: August 12, 2013, 08:24:58 am »

Hi all,

For those who plan to visit Portugal, here is a video made by the Camara Municipal de Odemira, a region that is very well worth visiting. It is one of the most unspoilt areas in Portugal.

Kind regards
Paulo

Very nice video, Paulo. I'll be in Lisboa later this week but for only a couple of days, alas.

Hi Rajan, shame I will not be around, as I will start vacation tomorrow, and will head south. Thanks to the long summer days, yesterday I went out after work for a stroll in Lisboa, to test my new Fujifilm XE-1 and 18-55 lens.

Nothing special really, just out and about on familiar places. If you have the time, you absolutely have to go to these successive belvederes around the Sao Jorge castle and Se areas: Portas do Sol (wonderful view of the old town and river), Graça, and Senhora do Monte. The last one provides the best view of the city. You just have to walk uphill and follow the tram tracks :)

Quite recently, a new belvedere opened, atop the Arco da Rua Augusta, overlooking Praça do Comércio near the river. This Praça is the "welcoming hall" of Lisboa, and a must see.

Finally, if you have the time, and are not on a diet, head out to the Belem district, to savour the famous "pasteis de Belem", a sort of famous cream/custard tart. The recipe is secret, comes from when the monks living on the nearby Jeronimos monastery were expelled from it during the liberal revolution in the 1820´s... the recipe is known only to 4 pastry chefs, not even the owner of the shop knows it...

Paulo, obrigado for the recommendations. I shall keep them in mind. I have been to Lisboa 3/4 times but never with photography in mind. Certain aspects of old Lisboa remind me strongly of my own hometown Panjim (capital of Goa).
