For reasons completely not associated with colorspace questions, I was looking into the UHDTV (4K and 8K) standard today. In doing so I found that the standard not only covers pixel counts, but also frame rates, and particularly interestingly, the colorspace utilized. It looks like 4K and 8K displays are spec'd to hit a colorspace known as rec. 2020. From what I've read so far, this colorspace is significantly larger than AdobeRGB. This led me to a question: are the 4K monitors currently on sale compliant with the colorspace portion of the UHDTV specification? There aren't many of them on the market, and they can be pretty pricey, but if I get both high resolution and a broad color gamut, they might be worth looking at. Of course I'm more than familiar with the fact that early to market examples of many technologies are not always fully standard compliant. Does anyone know about the color gamut capabilities of these monitors? Does anyone have any clue as to whether or not any of them do (or will) have 10-bit color pipelines as well?
Thanks,
Dave
