"The Setup" 4hrs in 45secs
« on: August 07, 2013, 05:15:54 pm »

Hello Michael and Chris,
Thanks for showing this clip. I'm interested to know a few details of your setup.
Looks like you're running the 2 new GH3's locked off on one tripod and a trusty AF100.
What's the other camera? Which camera did you use to shoot the time lapse? How are you recording audio and sync in post etc.
I imagine you're both very busy but if you have a minute or two - would love to know. Thanks! Tim.

Very interesting. I guess the GH3's would match the AF100's pretty well.
Many thanks!

Chris: What are you currently using for lighting?

...Master sound recorded to separate tracks on new Zoom H6 audio recorder...

How's it doing? I'm thinking of getting one myself.

A couple of now-rather-ancient Ianiro Redheads. Maybe flat panel lighting one day - it's on my wish list ))

I like it very much. Very well designed and thought out. Good control panel/VUs at 45˚ angle on top, making camera-mounted control very easy. The WAV multiple track file structure when multiple channel recording is simple and intuitive. Power management is massively improved over the H4n. I haven't used the 2channel out recording yet but it's there if needed. The only thing missing is Solo channel monitoring when recording - but maybe that's there too if I dig deep enough )) the High Pass and compression settings are adequate to good.

BTW I had a duh moment that lead to some out-of-focus shots with the Panasonic 20 mm pancake.

Even when everything is set to manual, if the power is cut to the lens (battery changes), the lens resets focus when the power is re-connected.

I notice that Panny is bringing out a newer model of this lens - not sure if this 'feature' is retained in the new model or not. I note that the newer lens' specifications no longer refer to a 'unique manual focus system'  ???

Which I was delighted to see. :) Always good to see old friends again.

I was fairly convinced that David Grover had flown the Phantom past one of the Redheads and between a GH3 and an AF100 until I saw the making-of section of your video. Very funny!
