Lightroom spot brush feather control

The feather control was added to the spot brush in LR5.2RC and is a most welcome addition.  However, I am still unable to achieve a smooth transition using the spot tool.  Here is an example, with the setting as Heal, Feather 100%, Opacity 100%.


 


As you can see, the boundary transition is still visible.

I did a little testing, and can see how the feather works.  It does not appear to be capable of a sufficiently gentle transition.



Does anyone have any tips on how to eliminate the transition boundary?

It's not so much the feathering that is inadequate but, rather, the fact that you are taking in too much at one "swipe". At that size of brush, there is nowhere on the image for the tool to go to find a sufficiently good match to avoid the effects you are producing. Try a smaller brush and shorter strokes.

Think of the difference between the patch and clone tools in PS.

In that case we are back to overlapping spots, which still show a boundary in this case.  It would work better if the feather portion blended more smoothly.
