quick way of importing single images into C1?
« on: August 03, 2013, 04:22:45 am »

Hi there,
since I've bought C1, there's one thing that bugs me the most.
since I work mostly in LR5 where the browsing is so quick and efficient, it serves as my main catalog.
but since I also have to convert Xpro files to print and the raw conversion for the Fuji is better in C1, I often import from folders into C1.
Now what would be the quickest way of importing single images into C1 ?
every time I hit the import button and watch it building previews for the whole folder, when all I want is to open a single image, I ask myself if there isn't a better way to do this.
I am reluctant to import everything i.e. my whole 80000 images  into C1, since it crashes so often.
any suggestions?
cheers from NZ

I've faced the same issue – as I prefer to keep all files centralised in Lr5. Also it is worth noting that C1 creates their own subdirectories in any directory you access it from. This creates even more 'dependencies' and is a limitation if you later start to move or copy files.

I've created
(1) one catalog
(2) two directories < C1_import > and < C1_export >.
(3) Set Lr to 'watch' ( File>Auto Import ) yr designated C1 export folder

COPY any files you want C1 to process to the import folder and set C1 to export  to the < export folder >, inserting or appending a 'C1 ' into the filename.   Any tiff files thus exported are automatically imported into Lr where I then move them to any folder I wish.

Creates additional files, but IMO is worth the simplicity and clarity it gives you. Also allows you to go back and reprocess in C1 if you so wish, without losing your Lr 'train of thought'.

Unless the forthcoming LuLa C1 video shows me a better solution …

Try dragging individual files from LR and dropping on the C1 icon in the dock.

Alternatively, look up my OpenDirectly plugin for LR.

Thanks John,
but does not work for me. opens up the file after it has opened the whole folder, but still generates all the previews for the whole folder.
I tend to stay away from touching anything on the interface while it generates the previews since it almost always crashes, when I do that...
but I'll check your plugin.
cheers
