I think this is the appropriate forum in which to ask this....
I am coming up on a 2-1/2 month trip and need to revamp my travel kit for workflow (maybe camera but I'm not sure about that yet). At this time I have a Dell mini that I've used for a few years but that I find terribly frustrating - slow, awkward, don't like the available software. (I use LR on my mac at home but the dell isn't powerful enough to handle it. I have used PSE - don't like it, and Picasa which is ok I guess.) Also, I shoot raw on my Nikon that has only one card slot. In the past I've brought home cards as well as back-ups on the computer and on an external drive.
Here are my thoughts and I'd appreciate any feedback/experiences.
First thought is to just get a 13" macbook air with 4gb ram and continue to do things as I have but with LR, a familiar OS interface, and a slightly larger screen. Bring home the cards and the external drive. Figuring whatever there is on the computer for storage it isn't going to be able to hold all of my files but I'm ok with that.
Second thought is iPad. The problem with the iPad is not being able to back up to an external drive. I've been thinking about getting a D7100 and I could shoot RAW to one card and jpg to another, use the jpg on the iPad for whatever I might want to do with the images while traveling. A little apprehensive about only having the cards and no back-up though. And, I'm not positive, at this moment, that I want a new DSLR vs 4/3rds.... (Really haven't given it a lot of thought yet.) And, I don't want to have to depend on internet access (fast internet access to be moving around 12+gb raw files...) for cloud storage.
I guess, as I'm writing this the MBA is sounding the best for now. But I'm interested in your thoughts.
Many thanks.
