Valley View - Out of Season Pic of Yosemite
« on: July 15, 2013, 10:05:58 pm »

I know it's summer and I took this pic back in December. It's just now that I bothered to crack open the image folder from my trip last year. lol :)

Thanks for viewing.

How many of the upper level roads are open at that time of year?

It is my ambition, if I ever win Euromillions, to come over to America in mid-winter and rent a helicopter (and pilot) to really explore both Yosemite and Yellowstone photographically in that season.

That's a wonderful shot. I tried getting some shots of snow caps in the river a few years ago, but got nothing anywhere near that good.

Very few. All of the entrance roads are typically open, and you can drive to Badger Pass (may well need chains or 4WD for any driving at all), but Tuolomne and Glacier Point roads are closed, as are many of the trails going up the valley walls. On the other hand, it's absolutely gorgeous just walking around in the valley, and you can also do cross-country skiing and snowshoeing from Badger Pass.

Most of the trails are closed in the winter so you can't really go to the backcountry areas in Yosemite. I think exploring the valley during winter is good enough...at least for me. :)

Thank you, Brian. I always check the weather in Yosemite during winter. When there's a storm, I'm on my way there with my 4X4 4Runner. lol

During this trip I took a couple of friends who have never been to Yosemite and just wanted to show them around.

Since we're in our third heat wave of the summer already here in the U.S. Northeast, I find these both very appealing!

Both photos are superb! Weather and timing were perfect for a winter scene. The last photo (three brothers) has some very nice curves.

Yes.

I would be tempted to dial down the saturation in places, especially the forest trees on the left that seem orange.

It's been hellish in Southern California too. :(

My eyes must be going bad, Scott. I can't tell if it's orange, red or yellow. Seriously. lol. I actually adjusted the (master/global) saturation by -1 on PS CS6...just so I can always say I took it down a notch. :)

How is that out of season?

Winter is easily the best time for shooting in the Valley.

I agree. Winter is probably the best time to go there and shoot. No crowds and it's beautiful in the winter. I was just saying that I posted a winter scene in the summer time :)
