Epson 9600 to 9900 Speed Difference...
« on: July 13, 2013, 05:57:04 pm »

I have found it mentioned that the 9900 is faster than the 9800, but is the 9800 faster than the 9600? If so how much? I can't seem to find a common place that has done tests on all three with the same settings for comparison. I just bought the 9900, but haven't set it up yet. My 9600 seemed painfully slow at anything over 720DPI.

I think you will find that the 9900 has a huge difference in many areas over the 9600.  It will be definitely faster at least 2x maybe 3x.  This is due to many new design features, like the greater number of nozzles.  You should be able to get a very fast print job at 1440 and not bad speeds at 2880.  There are others areas too, like paper loading which on the 9900 is much improved (at least for roll).  Noise, much more quiet printer.

Congratulations on the upgrade and enjoy.

Thanks for the info. I am very anxious to try it out. Hope to get it up and running in a couple days.

I noticed that the ink cartridges that came with it aren't even the 150ml, but are instead only 110! It seems like Epson would splurge and send the 350ml cartridges considering you have to charge the lines. :)

I have both a 7600 and both a 9800 and 9900.

The 9800 is at least 3-4 times faster than the 9800 and the 9900 is perhaps 1.5-2 times faster than the 9800.

I did a 600 print project (24x18 limited edition) with the 7600 once that took about 10 days 24x7. Ten hours per 50 foot room of Somerset.

The 9800 would have taken perhaps 2-3 hours and the 9900 is even faster.

For the most part, the 9900 is a screamer compared to the previous printers and with the extra inks, the prints are richer, too.
