Post Your Street Photography Images Part 2
« on: July 04, 2013, 06:40:03 am »

You may close your thread any time you like to, but don't imagine you can do so on a slur and an absolutely false statement and accusation about homophobia and xenophobia.

As I indicated earlier, you clearly don't understand the meaning of the word phobia, which denotes fear of something, not dislike of it.

Further, I have reread the thread and can find no reference to xenophobia, which means intense or irrational fear of people from other countries. What are you actually reading when you imagine you are reading posts in LuLa?

Xenophobia is a fear of the unknown.  Using the wording you did, you clearly don't know what you're talking about.

While it is true that 'technically' phobia is a fear of something, it has come to be used in a broader sense to describe the types of comments made in that thread.  And quite frankly, if you're that disgusted by something, you're probably in fear of it as well.  As I noted, if you have a problem with the closing of that thread and/or the reason why, take it up with Chris or Michael.

Bob, you probably ought to look up the word "xenophobia." You might learn something. At least remotely possible. You also might want to look up "phobia." I know that the word has taken on a load of political cant, but anyone who's secure in his biases ought at least to know what the word really means.

Russ, your position that not agreeing with you connotes a lack of knowledge is terribly tiring.

From Dictionary.com

pho·bi·a
[foh-bee-uh] Show IPA
noun
a persistent, irrational fear of a specific object, activity, or situation that leads to a compelling desire to avoid it.
Origin:
1780–90;  extracted from nouns ending in -phobia

Synonyms
aversion, hatred.

xenophobia
  Use Xenophobia in a sentence
xen·o·pho·bi·a
[zen-uh-foh-bee-uh, zee-nuh-] Show IPA
noun
an unreasonable fear or hatred of foreigners or strangers or of that which is foreign or strange.

I understand full well what both words mean.

What is the point of this thread....other than to hasten the possible end to this forum? It has been indicated that it's a possibility. :o

Well, they already highjacked a perfectly happy and cheerful little word, why not highjack phobias? ;)

They've hijacked more than one, Slobodan. I can think of at least two happy and cheerful little words and one slightly longer useful word that had to do with the woodpile.
