About 35-40 gather each evening, listen to whichever preacher shows, then get in line for what is likely their only full meal of the day. This first shot is of the one man who always stood for the sermon, hat in hand, a quiet dignity to his bearing.

"A Quiet Dignity"

This next guy was just trying to hang on, but as a carpenter in a dead housing market, I suspect he's still just barely hanging on.

"Hanging On"

This last image I am presenting is somewhat haunting as the man in the shot walked in front of a car the next day and his girlfriend took a long swim in the bay shortly thereafter.

"Unconditional Love"

And, lastly...which may be the best story

"Another Day in Paradise"

Good stuff. With the brief explanations, they become even more poignant & moving

Your shot of the woman with the shopping cart is a real gem. It tells the whole story instantly. Directionless. Future barred. Lonely. Cold. Shoeless. Going nowhere. Needs no words. This image is the best street shot I've seen in a while.

Thanks. I should have posted only this shot of her.

The first and the last make an interesting combination.

Numbers 2 and 3 are really good. Most photos of homeless people tend to dehumanize them as if they were zoo animals. These don't.

All four are quite fine.
