Just Bought My Fuji X100s
« on: June 19, 2013, 05:38:26 am »

Hey guys,

Just got my x100s this week and I love it! However, I bought a B+W filter to protect the lens and it seems like in macro focus mode, the lens actually extends out and it actually hits the glass of the filter.

Any ideas on what to do about this? Thanks in advance.

I don't use protective filters but that is a matter of debate. I find that you can get reflections and other artifacts, especially in night photogrphy that out weigh any benefits of the "protection". But again this is just personal preference.

I added an aftermarket hood/adapter ring for this very reason (JJC model). It only cost around $15.  Keeps the filter from making contact with the lens, and adds a little bump/flare protection.

The reason I use a filter on the X100s is so that I don't have to use the lens cap, which I'm sure I would either lose or leave on while attempting to take a photo.

Congratulations! If only stock would become available I'd be in the same position.

Have a look at http://www.fujix-forum.com/index.php/topic/8602-x100s-lens-hood-adapter-ring-and-prf-49s-protector-lens/

Please tell me that this means stock is becoming available again. I've had one on order for about a month now...

I have a X100, also use a UV filter on it to protect the lens. I also had a B+W filter, not slim, just regular, not a problem for me? Perhaps there is a change in the lens design?

Have you tried the X100, if so, what is the main difference from going from X100-X100s for you?

I agree Alan, there are some reflections of highlights in night shots. But for most cases, I find being able to clean the filter, not worried about scratching the lens, very useful. But a very good point with the artefacts.
