Anyone with experience buying an NEC PA271W-BK refurb?
« on: June 12, 2013, 12:46:40 pm »

I recently saw a fantastic deal on a refurbished NEC PA271W-BK monitor and pulled the trigger. Wanted to know if anyone here has purchased a refurbed model from NEC before and whether there were any lingering issues or troubles with warranties (I purchased from a 3rd party)? Thanks!

Ask about any dead pixels (a few may not be a big deal) and how many hours it's been used. That can accessed from the NEC SpectrView software.

If you have a warranty problem and return your new one, guess what you get back from NEC?  Yep, a fully warrantied refurb.  I know of two such cases, mine and  a friends, and in both cases the refurbs had under 10 hours, and were perfect in every way.

Don't have any info specific to your NEC but if I were buying a refurbed product I would only do so from the manufacturer, never a third party unless it's a major vendor like B&H.

Perfect! I ordered the Spectraview software and calibrator separately from B&H and will check when it gets here tomorrow.

BTW, I got my deal here:
http://www.edexdeals.com/StoreFront/do/product/NEC%3APA271W-BK-R-1?%26category%3DMONITOR-LCD-27

Paid $580 + shipping & tax. The same seller has an eBay store (with over 600+ reviews, so I felt comfortable buying from them), but for some reason it was $100 more on eBay than from them directly. In no way am I affiliated with them, just wanted to share the deal I got in case anyone was looking, too. Monitor arrives this afternoon, so I'll post a follow up after it's up and running.

Well...

That same monitor as a Refurb directly from NEC is $939.00.

Smells a bit fishy to me.

BTW, I'm Steves friend who got a Warranty refurb for my 2690 from NEC and yes it was perfect and still working great.  I would have no qualms buying one direct from NEC.

I got my Spectraview Pro kit, NEC hood, and a spare DisplayPort to mini DisplayPort cable (the refurb came with one!) from B&H today - which all together was almost as expensive as the monitor - and ran the calibration. Happy to report that as of now, the display is looking fantastic and it's been a good purchase for me as I've been waiting for a good deal for a long time.

One thing to note if anyone decides to get one from the link I posted, the packaging was a bit worrisome. The display came in one box, was wrapped in plastic sheeting, and the only protection was anti-static styrofoam blocks (the kind that look custom cut to fit each corner and the base). While there was about 3" of foam padding in any area touching the box, there was lots of air space in front of the display panel (which is probably a good thing). However, when UPS left the display at my door it was on its side so that made me panic for a bit on the inside until I opened the whole thing up.

To Andrew, how do I see the dead pixel and usage hours in Spectraview?
