I love the tones in this, but have to say the busy background is distracting and takes away from the Mimosa. The busyness made it hard to focus ::)

This was the difficulty of the composition - lots of very-very green leaves against an intensely blue sky. Getting one range to work was easy. Getting a whole range of tones, not so easy so I changed the focus to a new set of tones trying to get both the red and yellow parts of the flower to pop out against the green. As soon as it stops raining, I'm going to go for a better angle.

Chris, I can understand your frustration at a) the messy background in the BW and with "light" decisions in the colour version. Maybe try to accentuate the positive?

I like what Bruce did with the B&W but I think the only hope for the color is a reshoot.

Bruce's version is indeed better but going back is probably the best way to go.
