Lightroom & iMac 27" Display

I have been using an NEC MultiSync P221W connected to my MacBook Pro for my image processing. I am considering replacing the MacBook Pro with a new iMac 27". I am curious what your thoughts might be about using the display on the iMac (instead of the NEC display) for image processing. I am very pleased with the NEC, but have no experience with the iMac display.

I mirror those comments precisely. Much web chatter about shiny screen before I bought my first one; but almost immediately dispelled once I had it home and calibrated. Shiny screen is only a problem if you have it angled across a light source such as a window or overhead lamp. It also scores well when used as a screen to show off portfolios. Impressive to say the least.

I replaced my 2007 MacPro 8-core with 32GB ram with a Eizo 24" ColorEdge display with a 27" iMac i7 with 32GB ram and internal 3tb fusion drive. I ditched my two eSata Sandigital towers for a single Drobo 5D which connects to my iMac via Thunderbolt.

I calibrated my iMac display with ColorMunki. I'm very happy with the results. The Geek Bench score suggests that the iMac is about 40% faster in all of the performance tests than my aged MacPro. The Drobo is loaded with a mix of Hitachi 3TB and 4TB drives. It all works great and is very fast. I love the larger display and the images in Lightroom, Photoshop, Aperture (my iPhoto for family stuff) and Final Cut Pro X all look great and the software performs great too.

I have had my new set up for about 6 weeks now. I'm very happy and have reclaimed a lot of desktop space as compared to my old set up.

Exactly. I calibrate mine with an i1 Display pro and i1 Profiler software. Mine is a late 2009 i5 iMac with the white LED backlight. I calibrate for D-65, gamma 2.2 at a "brightness" of 100 cfm, recalibrate and profile every three weeks.  The software allows you to validate the profile and track the results from session to session. The readings  has been absolutely consistent from the start of my using the i1 Display pro / i1  Profiler combination.

I use the i1 display and CEDP on my 2009 iMac. Calibrates fine. Max Delta 0.65 average 0.35. Brightness set to 125 cd/m2 Don't find very much variation between cals
