My sand dunes.
« on: May 30, 2013, 09:57:28 am »

Not able to travel to those exotic spots so I do the best with what is around me. This reminds me of sand dune pix. Some rolling fields with interesting texture, good light, and a nice day. The sun was in and out from behind the clouds. Waited until the sun spot lit the far fields with the foreground is shade.

To me it is all about the pattern that the crop rows make. I shot this same scene a week earlier when the farmer was planting the corn. This was a one day thing as it relies on the newly turned soil, which is dark, contrasting with existing soil, which is light. The next day the soil has dried out to a more uniform color so the patterns are not as interesting. I got some very interesting patterns, with and without the tractor, but unfortunately the sky was not cooperating and was bland grey.

The above image is about a week after the planting and the corn has sprouted just enough so that it creates the patterns rather than the soil contrast.

I will get another shot as beans are planted latter than corn and they are not planted yet do to the rain. I shoot this also in infrared as there is a strong contrast between the sprouts and soil. I look for strong patterns in rolling fields - not many of those around here so I have only a couple spots to go to.

Given the weather across the world, it may not be long before those are sand dunes!  Nice image regardless.

What around you is amazing. Not like the stinky and human sardine area I live

Found these anthills a couple years ago, also reminded me of dunes:

For ants, they must be huge sand dunes… :D
