North End of the Great Salt Lake
« on: May 29, 2013, 09:11:51 pm »

Ok, long time lurker. First time post.

I shot these this last Sunday at the north end of Great Salt Lake.  This was one of those days when it was hard to decide what was the best treatment color or b&w.  Either way, I ended up with a few keepers at the end of the day. The light was terrible most of the time but those are the days when the magic happens -- if ever so briefly.

C&C are totally welcome & encouraged.

I prefer the b&W. It would "pop" better compositionally if you leveled the horizon

My thoughts exactly.

Welcome. Good start!

I like both. On the colour one, I would be tempted to boost the sky a bit, make it a bit warmer, but this would be my interpretation of the scene.

+1 on the tilted horizon.

Also, I find the shrub popping from the bottom distracting, and I wonder how the image would be if you had taken a few steps forward?

I like the soft and strange colours.

With the suggested ideas, I like the soft colors. The skies out here are indeed amazing.

Thanks for the C&C everyone. I really need to hone my PP skills (among other things).  I'll be sure to watch the horizons. You are right too that the bush was a bit distracting. Thanks for noticing.

I would have liked to have been able to move to adjust the perspective but I was standing on a boulder at the time. ;-)

It was sure interesting last Sunday, it was clear that the day was suited well for B&W but there was some beautiful light that came through at the end.  Just at dusk, the whole scene turned deep deep blue.  Really cool.
