Death Valley Sand Dunes
« on: May 28, 2013, 11:23:37 am »

Here's a shot from Mesquite Sand Dunes when I went to Death Valley in April. Thanks for viewing. :)

Sensuous. I would be tempted to crop off the busy top and concentrate on the bottom.

I can accept the suggested crop. I think this would also work well converted to B&W.
Very nice shot!

Nice set of lines and shadows. I would like to see a bit more on the top part, where some of the distant dunes are cut out.

Me too! I'd like to keep the criss-cross dune ridges, it would give a more abstract photo…

Funny, my first thought was to crop off the relatively uninteresting bottom!

Thanks Scott. I agree. I suppose I could trim off the top a little bit.

Thanks Eric. Yeah B&W looks really nice with this pic.

Thanks Paulo. I actually shot this scene this way on purpose because the sky was blue and had nothing going on so I didn't include it in the shot. I do have some with clouds that I will post soon. :)

Hahaha. I'm with you, Scott. I didn't even consider cropping to top until Scott and Eric mentioned it. However, I really want to crop the bottom a bit more because there aren't any of the criss-crossing lines/patterns that I really like.

Funny, my first thought was to crop off the relatively uninteresting bottom!

Yes, I like the top dunes more than the sand ripple.

Well there, as Russ would say, is the answer. Like Mr Punch's Advice To Young Persons About To Get Married, the answer to "Crop?" is "Don't".

I do like the b&w.

Thanks for the input, Jeremy. I usually don't like to crop, but in this case I think the bottom does need to be chopped off since there really isn't much going on.

I really like the B&W version too. I think I'm going to make a good size print of this image.
