Epson Exhibition Fiber on HP z3100 printer?
« on: May 23, 2013, 11:05:23 pm »

Hi,
I need to print some large format prints for a trade show display. Doesn't have to be perfect exhibition quality.

There is a HP z3100ps GP in my building that I can use for free. It's about 5 years old and uses the HP 12-ink Vivera inkset. I have zero experience with HP printers.

I generally like to use Epson Exhibition Fiber for my printing (great colors/gamut/blacks/etc.) at smaller sizes.
Before I invest in a 44" roll of Epson Exhibition Fiber paper, wondering if anyone has experience using this paper with HP's inkset?

Tips? Suggestions? All appreciated.

Thank you....

Hi,

Trade show? Doesn't have to be Exhibition print quality? While a more expensive paper like EEF could easily be used on the HP Z series printers, just wondering why a more economical paper like Epson Premium Luster, semi gloss, or gloss wouldn't suffice for this application? The HP Z series printers can print on most if not all Epson media without any real challenge. So, why not use a less expensive RC paper for this application?

cheers,

It may be a trade show, but I am an artist displaying work from my upcoming book. The Epson ultra premium luster is not bad, but not nearly as good as the exhibition fiber. On the other hand, the surface is certainly more durable, and for that alone may be a better choice.

My main concern is the combo of Epson paper with the HP inkjet.

Or the Ilford Galerie Prestige Smooth Pearl that also goes well with the Vivera pigment inks + GE, little bronzing or gloss difference. That said the Epson that Mark suggests is at least tested and probably with better results than the EEF. If the prints have to survive more than one trade show.

Edit: Dark storage for the RC papers not recommended in between shows?

I use EEF with my Z3100 with great results. Make yourself a custom profile and you are set. B&W is amazing with this combination.

I could not find any profiles for the Epson Premium Luster to print on the Z3100. Do you know of any?

Is there not an integrated spectrometer on the Z3100 and a profile creation program?
If it is about an advice which Z media preset suits the Epson paper then HP has the documents on using third party media on the Zs.
Then there is SpectrumViz to get an idea which HP RC paper might be close to the Epson paper.
