Out in the Fog
« on: May 20, 2013, 07:37:44 pm »

We've been seeing a lot of this stuff lately.  It's like shooting inside of a soft box.

+1  I love the first one, very moody, and the third one sneaks up on the viewer a bit - "oh wait, is that a lake and opposite shore?"

Thanks all for the nice words.  The first on is my favorite as well.

On a botanical note - the tree in the second shot is a larch that takes on this sprawling habit due to the wind on the barrens.  The spruce trees do the same thing and rarely are more than 3 m tall.

#1 has been growing on me. I thought about cropping it to put that white tree off-center, but not any more.

Nice larch! Have you seen the ones at treeline in the Rockies? I need to get there in the fall one year.

Like the first shot the best but it looks a little too washed out on my monitor at the office. I'd have to try moving the black slider up a little (very little) in levels to boost the contrast slightly without killing the mood. Monitors vary so I'll look again on my imac when I get home, may be perfect there. I know I'm nit picking but such a cool shot, I might try tweaking a tiny bit more. (-:}

Scott - no I haven't seen the larch but I have seen many a tortured limber pine at tree line.  My higher altitude experience in the Rockies is mostly in Wyoming and Colorado and there aren't any larch.

arlon - agreed the contrast could be pushed a bit more.  Thanks for the suggestion.
