I would like to have one of those.  Great concept, would be good for tutorials.  Great video, Love the Ted Talk.  Tim Wolcott

The geek's answer to attention deficit disorder.

God, I so detest living in a world designed by geeks.
We can't put the phone down,
because whatever the phone has to say
is apparently infinitely more interesting
than the people we engage with directly...

And because it is somehow awkward to be hunched down over your electronics while engaging in conversation, we decide to build glasses… The less we learn to converse, the more we will need that.

We learn to communicate
so we can ask for directions as needed,
in the meantime we overload the brain
with irrelevance,

We wear glasses to fill our vision,
because whatever we have designed and created
as a context for our lives, is apparently not beautiful
nor informative enough by itself.

And we wear headsets to bombard our ears,
because whatever we did to move the air
which not its beauty leaves us breathless,
it needs to be masked by sounds much louder.

There are times and places where those glasses could be relevant. Military Helicopter pilots come to mind as they have been using these for years, sized appropriately so as not to be usable in public ;-) So it may be useful for interaction with other inanimate objects and devices, but I find it highly suspect in the context of interaction with human beings...

I really don't think thats why they made them.  I really think they tried to free up the hand and mind more to let the video be more responsive to what is in front of the taker.  I just think he can describe it well.  But it would be great for video tutorials.  Instead of holding something in your hands you get to react to what happening.

Excellent post, very much in tune with my own opinions. I am continually aghast at these people who need some new tech gadget every month to make them happy. I will never forget my horror at the news stories of hundreds of people who stood in line overnight so they could get the new iPhone TODAY and not tomorrow. Can anyone's life really be so empty?

Now they'll stand in line for the glasses. And we can expect a gaggle of cheese-brains driving with the glasses on, surpassing the idiocy of people who use their phone while driving.

OK, end of grumbling! For now, anyway.

Three of my favorite Dilberts describe my opinion best...

... and Scott has foreseen something similar in 1994 ...
