How many here use both a dye and pigment printer?
« on: May 12, 2013, 10:28:49 am »

Just wondering how many people here switch between a dye and pigment printer depending of the subject matter of the print?  I'm considering picking up a dye based printer to go with my pigment based one.

I´m one of them. HP z3200ps 44" for most of my jobs, but I also keep a HP 130nr for some prints that requires "color" punch (specially in reds and blues).

Although I've printed only with Canon iPF printers for the past six years, I still have an i9900 from 11-12 years ago under the counter that I'm tempted to try firing up again with a new head. Spectacular colors, and blacks on matte better than any pig. prints I've seen. Then there are the glossies....

The prints I've still got hanging here and there still look very good to me.

Wouldn't it be marvelous if industrial chemists could come up with even 50 year dyes.  100 year dyes and never again any clogs.  Wow!

No intent to hijack the thread but have similar questions about operating a dye sub system.
I am in the market for a good dye printer as well. Want to offer Chromaluxe panels.
Two problems I keep running into are clog issues with these printers and finding a press for pano fomat (17x51)
4880 can do the sizes i need but if it sits it clogs.
You can get a small entry level package for several thousand but to throw 10k at a project like this just does not have a good ROI.
