IPF 8300 new firmware
« on: May 09, 2013, 10:34:15 am »

The Canon tech support suggested I install the new firmware for the 8300 when we were discussing something else. He guided me through the download and installation.

It all works normally except the printer turns off during the night after it hasn't been used for many hours and I need to restart it in the morning.

Anybody have any idea why, before I call them?

I'm on an 8 core Mac Pro, still running 10.6.8. He knew the OS I was using when suggesting this.

Is there a setting in the software where I can set this to leave it on all the time?

Drill down through the menus, there's a setting for auto power off or some such. Mine did the same thing until I figured out the menu setting.

Are there any known improvements/advantages to the new firmware?

I don't remember off the top of my head, but enough that compelled me to install it within days of it's release.

Thanks, I don't see any difference in anything, other than it's shutting off the printer at night.

My dealer made a point of contacting me when this upgrade became available. He had just come from a dealers meeting where he had learned of it. He suggested it was designed to improve head life on the ipf machines.

I also had to reset the auto off feature to get it to not turn off, after the upgrade.

Where do you do this. I still can't find it in the printer menu?

John,
On my 8300 using the controls on the front panel:
wake up printer by hitting "menu"
scroll right to the "set/Adj Menu" screen (furthest right choice), push "OK"
scroll down to "system setup", push "OK"
scroll to "shut down timer", push "OK"
choose "off"

Hope that helps
