Hasselblad hts 1.5 with 80mm vs. 120mm macro
« on: May 05, 2013, 03:58:45 pm »

Has anyone had the chance to compare those two at medium to close distances, say around 60cm to 1m? if they are close, why would one want a 120mm macro?

thanks

Stefan

Perhaps because you need autofocus?

Because 120mm macro is designed to give its best at close distances and 80mm is not. I believe there is no better choice than 120mm at 60cm. They are not close at 60cm. The difference is possibly not so obvious at 1m distance. I use Phase One, I believe it's the same with Hasselblad.

That might be the case with the new HC120 macro but my HTS plus 80 or plus 100 definitely performs better at that distance than my HC120. I quite often grab the HTS/80/13mm extender (or the same combo but with the HC100 instead of the 80) instead of the HC120.

Now, I am told by several people that have the HC120mkII and have used the HC120 as well that the new version is much better at close range. I have just yet not had the urge to pony up the money to replace my HC120. Maybe next year...
