Where are Epson 3880 profiles for Epson Premium Luster
« on: May 04, 2013, 09:08:42 pm »

I am trying to find where to download the Epson Premium Luster profile for the Epson 3880.  It doesn't appear to be anywhere on the Epson website anymore.  Did Epson change things and now include it as part of the driver installation?  I have it installed from the installer, but want to be able to send someone else the icc profile to match what I am seeing for soft proofing.  Thanks in advance!

I did check the epson website here under ICC profiles, but it isn't listed.

It should be installed with the driver. Why don't you make a copy of your icc profile and email them that. Are you on a Mac or a PC and what operating system?

Assuming you are on Mac, the profile is embedded in the print driver and kinda tough to find. Go to the root Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter/ICCProfiles/Pro3880.profiles and right click (Control click) and select Show Package Contents. The profiles will show up there. Then copy (don't try to move them) to your desktop.

Thanks folks!  Sorry I didn't say --- I am on a mac and my friend is on a PC.  Can I still email the same ICC profile?   If not, I assume he can just install the driver for the printer (seems like overkill).
thx

You can email him the profile. It will work on the pc. He just has to right click on it and hit install. Just follow Jeff's instructions on where to find the profile on your mac.

FWIW, in the future, if you're trying to find an ICC profile on your Mac, just launch the ColorSync utility and it will show the path of all profiles, even those hidden in a package.

That said, I sure wish Epson would just install the profile outside a package. Lots of users ask exactly the same question you do "Where are my Epson profiles?"

How about going in reverse? I can't get a profile to show up when using the 3880 through the driver, so I must not have put it in the correct spot. It's a red river paper profile that I needed for a quick print. I put it in all the usual places. It shows up just fine when soft-proffing in CS6, but not when trying to print from CS6. Using Mac and 10.6.8. Works fine when printing from CS5. Is there a secret place to put these? Thanks...

Show up where? You don't load the ICC profile anywhere in the print driver.

Guess I'm not using the correct term here, sorry. When I hit command-P to print, I am unable to find the red river profile in the dropdown menu when using CS6 - the profile is there when using CS5, and the profile is visible when I'm softproofing in CS6.

Never heard of a case where you can access the profile for soft proof but not in Print. This IS an RGB document right?

Yes, it is just a regular print. The Red River profile is visible when I soft proof, but not when I go to print. I tried putting the profile in the usual "recommended" colorsync profile folder, and then in every other colorsync folder I could find, including even inside the 3880 package that Jeff noted above. It just doesn't show up. Works just great with CS5, but not CS6...

Try the ColorSync utility Profile First Aid.

Restart Photoshop (or even reboot)?

Send or post the profile so we can test OR try on a different machine.

Thanks Andrew. Never heard of Profile First Aid, but I'll see if I can find it. Have restarted the machine many times - it is just something that came up during a workshop a few weeks ago that I've not been able to solve - I don't normally print on a 3880, it is just for workshops in other locations. Sounds like there is no secret location to put these profiles so the 3880 can see them, so I'll just keep hunting and see if I can find something else to make it work. Thanks...

Profile First Aid is part of the ColorSync utility.

Found it the utility and my copy won't open. I did download another Red River profile and it showed up just fine, so I guess there is an issue with the original profile - I downloaded the original one again and it still won't work. I should just make a custom profile and not worry about it, but I didn't have time to at first. Thanks for your help Andrew...

Got a different version of the colorsync first aid to work and it found 75 bad profiles on the Red River profile in question, fixed 25 of them, and now the profile is showing up where it is supposed to (I wonder why the other 50 can't be fixed?) - thanks for the education, as always Andrew!

The utility is real picky and can sometimes flag issues not worth worrying about. IF they show up and you can use em, don't worry about what the utility reports.

I have seen this issue when somebody has upgraded OSX from one version to another. The remedy that has fixed this has been to reinstall Photoshop over the 'old' one and all works after that.
