Z3200 yellow on hp prem inst dry
« on: May 01, 2013, 07:33:49 pm »

hi everyone.. i always realize when dooing proofs that yellow is the most tricky color which easily shifts.. but now i come up with a question mark...

i havent used hp prem instant dry semi in a long time.. as i only used fine art paper..

now for a project i wanted to use a paper with a large gamut that is easy to handle.. and returned to that.

i built a new profile which i hadent before.. and realized.. the yellow itself is pretty limited.. !.. when lookin at the built in calibration patches.. i see the yellow turning orange as more ink is aplied.

and lookin at the profiles gamut chart.. there is no peak up in yellow.. but its missing like 15%.. only there. compared to the canned one.  the printed yellow ia like dE 12 off on a fogra wedge, too

is this a problem with that paper?

which affordable semi gloss paper do you guys use with a nice gamut ?

thnx

no answer so far...

i did some more testing and realized something even more strange!

i built a quick profile on everyday glossy.. same limit in yellow..

i printed with the semi prem settings on my proofing paper.. same limitation

i used the settig "hp semi proofing".. and printed on the semi prem paper.. et voila.. i get the same gamut then with the setting semi prem + the yellow!!.. ??

now.. how can that happen ???

Look at this thread (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?topic=61621.0). I had something similar and it was a printhead issue. Good luck!

What you can do in advance is to check the printhead visually. If you see any magenta/yellow mixed in the strip, it`s probably the head that is malfunctioning. Magenta and yellow are mixing when you print regardless of the paper preset used. At first I though that it was the rag paper, but it happened in all other papers too. Good luck!
