On Sunday (Apr 28th), I took a drive around Lake Muskoka, and water was everywhere. On fields, on some roads, in road ditches, and most annoying to many cottagers - also in many basements.
The waters have crested just the night before, but surprisingly, despite the warm weather, there were still some pockets of snow in shaded areas. Some low-lying roads were closed and many roadside garages resembled boathouses. Ideal conditions for growing a healthy crop of black flies and mosquitos.
The worst flooding in 100 years was massive and quite widely spread - through Muskoka, Haliburton, and even Algonquin Park where many camps and roads are still under water.
The picture below was taken from Kelvin Grove park in Bracebridge. The Wharf road on the other side of Muskoka River was still closed on Sunday.
