Printer Profiles created with Colormunki not accurate in LR4
« on: April 20, 2013, 03:32:54 pm »

I have profiled my monitor and Epson 3800 using Colormunki and get great results from Aperture with the custom profiles. However, I recently switched to LR4 for a number of reasons and find that the Colormunki icc print profiles that work great in Aperture give me terrible results in LR4. I did a number of tests with profiles for Epson EX Fiber and Premium Luster paper and cannot get good results. One again the very same profiles provide excellent results in Aperture without any additional print corrections applied.
I printed the same images out of LR4 with the standard Epson profiles and got good results.
Any thoughts on why the Colormunki profiles do not work correctly in LR4. I really like LR4 but this is a deal buster!
Thanks,
Dan

Are you sure you have the settings correct to have color managed by the application as opposed to the printer?  Perhaps you have but that's the first thing that comes to mind.

Perhaps Jeff will respond, I know he uses Epson printers.. I'm a Canon junkie myself.

I printed the same images out of LR4 with the standard Epson profiles and got good results.

Then it's your profiles...when you saved the profiles out, did you save them as v2 ICC or v4 ICC? Version 4 profiles cause problems for various but not all applications.

I saved them as V4. Does LR have an issue with V4 icc files?

There are problems with v4 profiles and no benefit (at this point). It's not an issue on Windows but can be on Mac. Also note that the Lightroom print pipeline and the Aperture pipeline on Mac is slightly different. I won't say the ColorSync pipeline is tweeked to always do the right thing for Aperture, but I will say that Aperture tends to be tweeked to always work with the ColorSync pipeline. If you re-save the measurement data as a v2 profile, I suspect you will see different results.

That makes sense, I will re-read and save the profile as V2. I will let you know if it works out.
Thanks,

I finally had and opportunity to create icc V2 profiles. Profiled both monitor and printer again and the results are much better! Still have bit to learn about adjusting soft proof image. I will give the tutorial another viewing.
Thanks all for your help!
