It's so stealthy that I had a hard time working out what it was!

What does it look like in colour?

Yeah...I think you may be right... this sucker was about 15 inches long...maybe 4.5 inches in diameter.

I like #1 and the title. It took while to figure out what it was. That made it interesting. #2 was nice, but my first reaction was just another pretty koi picture.

Agreed. I thought the B&W was a skull under water but was still unsure. As soon as I saw the color version I knew immediately what it was, kinda took the fun out of it.

B+W for me. I like the abstraction enhanced by the irregular reflected black lines.

I have gone in and make a few editorial changes, almost to the effect of a duo-tone but not quite...does this add or subtract from the "mystery" quality in the abstraction?

I like the added contrast but I don't think it changes the mystery, it's still difficult to tell what it is in either one.

That would be the idea of being "stealthy." While this Koi was in a controlled environment in which no natural predators existed and people couldn't get close enough to build in a fear factor, I found it quite interesting all the Koi in the small river-place built for them, seemed to change coloration as they moved from the brighter areas to the darker areas just as they would in a less controlled environ.

That's very interesting. It suggests to ME that are least some of the above-water predators can't see color. Or at any rate those colors.

I prefer the B&Ws, and prefer the higher contrast version.
