The Elusive Print - 8x10 on 8.5x11 Sheet
« on: April 12, 2013, 05:07:17 pm »

Alright, I have a real head scratcher here.  I used to be able to, on my Epson Stylus Pro 7800, make an 8x10 print on an 8.5x11 sheet from Lightroom, using the (1) 8x10 Lightroom Template found in the Template Browser.

However, my recent attempts have all failed.  Here's what I am running...

Windows 7 Professional (64-bit)
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.4
Epson Printer Driver v6.50

Printer: Epson Stylus Pro 7800

Any ideas what might be at fault? I must be doing something wrong, but can't for the life of me figure it out.  I've attached screenshots of both the Print module settings and the Epson driver settings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Failed how? Didn't print? Printed wrong size? Kinda hard to guess what "failed" means...

Hi Jeff,

Sorry for not being more specific.  I do get a print, but it is not a full 8"x10"...more like 7.98" x 9.80".

I have my margins zeroed out in LR.  I also tried creating a Custom Size in the Print Setup screen.  Nothing I seem to do allows me to eke out a full 8"x10" print.

I don't know anything about Epson printers, but what is the dialog that opens with "printable area".  Perhaps you already have, but I would look there.

In your LR screenshot, you've got zero margins, but the 7800 has minimum margins of .25 top/left/right and .56 bottom when set to print an 8.5x11 sheet (at least that's what I get on my 9900 when I set the print setup to letter sheet on Mac). Not sure why you're margins don't default to the same, the page setup should be reporting the max printable area to LR...

Jeff,

You are correct - the default margins are 0.25 top/left/right and 0.56 bottom.  I manually set them to 0 which is why they look that way in the screenshot.

Well, I would try leaving them the way they defaulted to...an 8"x10" cell size should print full size inside the printable area of 8"x10.9". If you changed the top margin to .56 to center the image, then the max length would be reduced to 9.88".

I'll give it a try and report back.  Thanks for helping troubleshoot the issue Jeff!

Jeff,

Thanks again!  Just pulled a test print and yep, I got an 8x10 on 8.5x11.

If you'll excuse me, I need to go cut off my fingers...they keep clicking options they shouldn't!  ;D

Thanks and have a great weekend!
