ICC V2 & V4 profiles

I was just wondering if someone could help me get my head around something. I've noticed that an icc V4 profile has brighter black point viewed in Mac ColourSynch viewer than it's icc V2 counter part. 

I've attached a couple of icc profiles I've just created for my monitor, and screen grabs to hopefully illustrate what I'm on about.

It's the same with paper profiles; if I write a V2 profile the black always hits the bottom of the axis, but a V4 profile black point always seems slightly elevated.

Soft proofing in LR4 under a v4 profile always appears to lighten the darker greys slightly from a corresponding v2 profile

So all in all I'm in a bit of a quandary, my paper profiler always writes v4.1.0 paper profiles by default; should I reset and re-profile to v2, or should I go V4 everything ?  I'm more than a little curious about other peoples approach to this.

Stick with V2 as V4 profiles can produce issues with some software and they are almost always just V2 profiles in sheep's clothing if you will.

By co-incidence, I was reading about a couple of V2 profiles (but didn't understand much . .)
