I knew this exact post with those exact words was
Going to happen.

Paul is rather new here.. he didn't know, now he knows.

Gosh, when I have time I will do a cartoon animation on
This forum. I already have the characters very studdied.
Schewe, Rob, Keith, CB, MR, the list is long.
It's going to be more realistic than the real life.

I knew... What did Einstein say about expecting a different outcome ?

Keith, if it makes you feel better, a Lula member once downloaded one of my images, altered it in Photoshop, and then re-uploaded it here. Took an email from a mod to get it down.

Paul, thanks, the point is I have more than enough angst controlling where my images appear without having to worry about it here on LuLa.

Didn't mean to cause you any grief - saw your website and liked your pictures :)

No, it wasn't FredBGG. I've never known him to do things like that. This individual was trying to make a totally legitimate  and worthwhile point about the styling in a photo (which I've taken to heart), but which could have been made very effectively with words alone. I felt that the Photoshop alteration was a bit disrespectful. The altered version was eventually removed, but I never got a response from the individual defending his action, or apologizing for it. Disappointing. Not exactly the crime of the century, but I don't think I would have done it, and I'd have at least responded directly to someone who complained about my actions.

If you must - It's Paolo ;)

The confusion seems to come from your (anglicized?) LuLa handle: Paul Ozzello. Easy to see how a quick reading can transform it into Paulo.

If you keep baiting, he will bite.

You've started a decent thread; do not ruin it by unnecessary provocations.

I love FredBGG. There, i said it. Now back to pictures.

Fred - i hope you know I'm teasing :)

I really like this image. Was it taken with your Pentax ? I often shoot 15-30 minutes exposures but with film. How does the pentax handle long exposures ?

... Here’s one I did not intend to take.  I was photographing  some migrating waterfowl today.  None of those shots was interesting, but I saw a monoclinc-shaped  piece of shale next to a typical smoothed stone on the shore.  I find the contrast of stone shapes and the movement of water fascinating....

Now, that's the type of nature/landscape photography that I like very much: when the scene transcends apparent reality, and turns into a metaphor, a world of its own, shapes and forms, colors and tones. Well seen, Sir!

Yes, this is with the 645D and old manual focus A 35mm lens. I have not had to make exposures over 5 minutes, but those exposure times are very good with the Pentax. The down side is you cannot turn off the dark frame subtraction, exposure time is always doubled--it of it as digital reciprocity. The image I post is also at ISO 800.

................. sometimes minimalistic like here. ................................

I understand completely what attracted you to that scene.  I love images with simple abstract graphic qualities.  I've been working on a series inspired by Mark Rothko paintings.  My most recent, if least succesful:

Nice, David!

It's good to see that you're behind the lens again after Sandy wreaked havoc on your life.

Best Regards,
Ed

Hi Ed: thanks for your post and PM. We are presently on the road nearing the end of a two week trip to the mid west to see grand kids graduate from high school and college. We will return home to LBI this Wednesday. After 6 months and 9 days, we were able to move back home. Still a lot of work to do, but it is habitable!

I was an early adopter with the Pentax 645D. I imported mine from Japan, through Hong Kong ( international warranty, keep your fingers crossed about break downs, repairs, etc). It is a fabulous camera, with such easy, intuitive controls, that all makers should study it. Mirror lock up is a simple external knob. Turn it, and you get lock up. Turn it the other way to cancel it. HDR is a snap. Legacy lenses dirt cheap. I have manual focus lenses that I snapped up, used, the same week the camera was announced, long before I actually had the camera in hand. I have 35mm, 75 mm, 120 macro (Famously sharp!), 150 mm, 200 mm, 300mm EDIF f4, with brand new old stock, matched 1.4x multiplier, and 45-85 AF zoom. The average price I payed was about $150 to $175, except for the 300mm which was, as I recall, about double that.

I have some really amazing images taken post Sandy of the surreal skies, and repaired dunes. I hope to start printing when I get home. My Epson 3800 and 7890 were idle, and subjected to freezing temperatures for 6 months. Getting them up and running was a different story.
Nice hearing from you, my friend.

Dave, is that a single capture? No compositing involved? If so, it is simply spectacularly good.
