OT Mac 10bit monitoring?
« on: March 13, 2013, 03:12:50 pm »

Did Apple ever get their act together and enable a 10bit monitoring pathway?  I know this has been around for a while on PCs.  My Eizo can accept a 10bit signal via DisplayPort but are we getting any love for our Macs?

Thanks

Yes, but if you have a display that is capable of having 10-bit and you use a software that can communicate directly with the display to set the calibration, the 10-bit display pipeline is less critical. So, an NEC or EIZO can, with the right software, drive the displays settings internally in 10-bit and Photoshop and Lightroom will use 20-bit precision when transforming from the working space to the display space, so the lack of 10-bit on the Mac is a bit less troubling. Yes, I would like to have a 10-bit pipeline and it pisses me off Apple hasn't done it but it's an edge case situation.
