Eizo ColorEdge + Windows 8
« on: March 06, 2013, 03:53:07 pm »

I wonder if anyone else have this issue.  I have an Eizo CE240W.  I had no problem calibrating using Eizo's ColorNavigator under Windows 7.  Now that I'm on Windows 8 (64) I am unable to install ColorNavigator. With "unable to install" I mean that after going through the installation process with no errors/warning, effectively nothing is installed (no Eizo directory, no program).  I even tried this under version control as well as run as admin in Win 8 with no success.  I tried several versions of ColorNavigator, still no luck.

Essentially, I am unable to calibrate the monitor in Win8.  So, I tried using the software from x-rite (I'm using an EyeOne Display 2).  There are two problems with that.  The first is that I don't understand if with x-rite I'm going to modify the monitor LUT as opposed to the video card's.  The second, is that I cannot figure out how to manually change luminance etc on my monitor OS (the area where I should be able to make those changes seems to be locked/greyed out on Eizo's on screen menu).

I still would love to use Eizo's ColorNavigator. If anyone can think of a work around that would be great.  Eizo does not provide a contact email  :'(

CE240 was orginally supported by ColorNavigator CE software, then by ColorNavigator 5 that's not running under Windows 8.

Present ColorNavigator 6.4 runs under Windows 8, but it doesn't support CE240 anymore...

For 30 days you can test basICColor display 5 that can modify CE240 monitor LUT.

Thanks Czornyj for pointing out basICColor.

How does basICColor Display compares against X-Rite and Eizo's solution.  I haven't kept up to date with color calibration solutions in a few years, and I don't recall seeing this name 5 years ago or so.

It has similar features as ColorNavigator, at least it's worth trying - it's fully functional during 30 days test period.

I had a similar issue with the Colormunki and Windows 8. By default, Windows 8 has an antivirus app called Windows Defender and that was the culprit. Disable it and Colormunki calibration worked fine. It might be worth a try.

@technoholic
Thanks, I should try and see what happens.  However, with Eizo clearly stating that they have dropped support for my monitor under Win8, my best alternative is using one of the 3rd party software (basiccolor and coloreye).
