Interesting shot, Chuck, but in my opinion it is not graphic enough to be a great shot. I think a great shot would have fewer gray shadows and the black shadows would do more (form some interesting shape/pattern).

In contrast to Roger, I like it.  The shadows thrown by the branches remind me of the streams of river beds and estuaries when seen from an aerial perspective.  Given that the snow will eventually melt and form such channels adds to the image in my opinion.

Yeah, Chuck just can't stay away from flowing water.   ;)

I also like the contrast between the smooth blacks and sparkling whites.

Wow! Scott has me pegged.  :)  I guess it is just in my blood.

Thanks all for the comments.  I  am not so sure about this one that why I put it out for comments.  I was trying to capture the complex mythos behind the Rowan tree which is far from black and white.  My preferred version is even darker but it really doesn't come into its own at the posting size.

I'm glad you posted it. To me it's one of the best images I've seen posted here in the past several days. Good seeing!

I love this image… But I'm not surprized that you like it also. It's reminiscent of your road tar images!
